• Save tax and financial records: Cash App retains your transaction history after closure, but you lose access to it in-app. Export your transaction history and statements beforehand.
• Document refunds or pending payments: If you expect any refunds or have pending payments, either settle them or be aware they may be canceled.

What Happens When You Close Your Cash App Account?

If you close your account, it permanently deactivates it and severs your access, with these effects:

• $Cashtag and profile: Your $Cashtag is deactivated and retired. A Closed account’s $Cashtag cannot be reused.
• Cash App Card and linked services: Your Cash Card is immediately canceled. Any pending charges on it will fail.
• Direct deposits and recurring payments: Any pending direct deposits are returned to the sender within 3–5 business days. You must update your paychecks or benefits with a new account beforehand.
• Account and login termination: You can no longer sign in to that account. All login sessions and two-factor sessions are revoked.
• Legal and financial records: Cash App will retain most transaction and account records, as required by law.
• Privacy of history: Although you lose in-app access, your past transactions remain visible and retained on Cash App’s backend. But your account will no longer appear in searches or contact lookups.

If you can’t log in to your Cash App account, you cannot self-service-delete it.

Instead, you must contact Cash App support directly:

Can You Reopen a Deleted Cash App Account?

No, once closed, a Cash App account cannot be reactivated.

Cash App makes it clear that a closed account is permanent; your $Cashtag is disabled, and you cannot open a closed account.

• Immediate deactivation: After you tap Close Account and confirm, Cash App deactivates your account and usually processes the closure quickly.
• Starting over: To use Cash App again, you must create a brand new account with new credentials. You cannot reuse the same $Cashtag or login.
