To block a merchant on Cash App, follow these steps:
- Open Cash App
- Go to the Activity tab
- Scroll down to locate a transaction from the merchant you want to block.
- Tap the merchant name/icon
- On the merchant’s profile screen, you will see an option to Block that merchant.

How to Block a Merchant From Charging Your Cash App Card?
When you block a merchant in Cash App, it applies to both Cash App balance and Cash Card charges.
- Open the Activity tab in the Cash App.
- Select a transaction made on your Cash Card by that merchant.
- Tap the merchant’s profile and
- Choose Block Merchant, as above.
Once done, any attempt by that merchant to charge your Cash Card or Cash App balance will be declined.
If your Cash Card is also added to Apple Pay or Google Pay, blocking the merchant in Cash App will still stop charges made with those linked payments, since the underlying Cash App account is blocked.
What Happens When You Block a Merchant?
Blocking a merchant has the following effects:
1. Future Charges Blocked
Any new payment request or charge attempt by that merchant will be declined automatically.
2. Existing Charges/Subs Unaffected
Any recurring charges or subscription payments already authorised before you blocked the merchant are not automatically cancelled.
Just because you block them does not cancel existing subscriptions or outstanding balances. You remain responsible for any charges that were already in process.
3. Refunds Still Possible
Blocking only stops new payments.
But if the merchant issues you a refund, Cash App will credit it back to your account.
It does not impede refunds for prior transactions.
4. No Retroactive Action
Block does not attempt to reverse past charges. It simply stops future use of your account by that merchant.
You should also manually cancel any active subscriptions with the merchant.
Does Blocking a Merchant Cancel Subscriptions?
No, blocking a merchant never automatically ends a subscription or recurring payment.
The merchant could technically continue to bill you if they have your account on file, despite being blocked.
You would still need to log in to the service and select “Cancel Subscription” or contact the merchant directly to end the plan.
To end a subscription, you must cancel it through the merchant.
- Via the merchant’s app or website
- Through your app store
- Call or email support.
How to Unblock a Merchant on Cash App?
If you changed your mind or wrongfully blocked someone, you can unblock them again:
- Open Cash App
- Go to the Activity tab.
- Locate a past transaction with the merchant
- Tap the merchant’s name/icon to open their profile page.
- Select Unblock Merchant.
On that profile, the block button will have toggled to Unblock after you blocked them. Tap it to remove the block.
Alternatively, some users report that blocked merchants appear under the Cash Card’s Blocked Businesses list, where you can manage them.
If that interface is available on your app version, open the Cash Card tab, scroll to Blocked Businesses, find the merchant, and tap Unblock there.

Cash App Merchant Blocking vs Locking Your Cash Card
You can choose to stop a merchant, freeze your card, cancel a subscription, or challenge a charge.
| Option | Use It When… | Stops Future Charges? | Cancels Subscription? | Gets Money Back? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Block Merchant | One company keeps charging you. | |||
| Lock Cash Card | You need to stop all card spending quickly. | |||
| Cancel Subscription | You want the service to end. | |||
| Dispute Charge | You were already charged and believe it is wrong. |
Remember, blocking a merchant or locking your card can help prevent future charges, but only the merchant can cancel a subscription, and disputes are for charges that have already occurred.
