What Happens When You Lock Your Cash App Card?

Locking your Cash Card has the following effects:

  • Blocks new transactions: All new purchases or withdrawals on the physical or virtual Cash Card will be declined while locked.
  • Recurring payments (subscriptions/bills): Locking does not stop recurring/authorized transactions. Any subscription or recurring charge that was already authorized will still go through as scheduled.
  • Pending authorizations: Any transaction already pending/authorized will typically still complete or settle.
  • ATM withdrawals: Using the card at an ATM counts as a new transaction. It will be declined while locked.
  • Linked Bank & transfers: Locking the card does not affect your Cash App balance or your linked bank account. You can still transfer money to/from your bank or send money via the app.
  • Notifications and app behavior: After locking, the Cash App will usually show a “Card Locked” status and send an in-app notification.
  • Limitations: Locking is a safety feature but not a complete block. It won’t prevent someone with your Cash App login or routing/account number from moving funds; it only stops card charges.
