How to Unlock Borrow on Cash App: Eligibility, Borrowing Amount & Interest
Cash App Borrow access is not available to every account and can change over time.
Cash App reviews account activity and repayment history when determining eligibility for its lending products.
Eligibility can also vary based on where the account holder lives and whether the account meets Cash App’s requirements.

Cash App Borrow Eligibility Requirements
Cash App Borrow eligibility depends on several factors, including your age, residency, account status, identity verification, deposit activity, and overall Cash App usage.
| Eligibility Requirement | What You Need |
|---|---|
| Age | 18 or older |
| Residency | U.S. resident |
| Excluded states | Colorado, Iowa, and Oregon |
| Account ownership | Must be the legal owner of the Cash App account |
| Account type | Personal account; sponsored accounts aren’t eligible |
| Account status | Account must be in good standing |
| ID verification | Must complete Cash App’s ID verification |
Even if you meet these requirements, it does not guarantee access to Borrow, as Cash App determines eligibility and borrowing limits based on multiple factors and may change eligibility over time.
- Deposit Requirements: Direct deposit $300 or more in paychecks per month into Cash App, or link an external bank account that receives $500+ in monthly deposits.
- Cash App Card: Having and using a Cash App Visa® Debit Card is strongly encouraged. It is likely the borrowing algorithm favors accounts with card transactions.

| 3 | Use your Cash App Card | Regular card use may help eligibility |

Cash App Borrow Fees
| Fee / Cost | Notes |
|---|---|
| Finance Charge | Disclosed upfront when you accept the loan |
| Typical fee | About 5% of the amount borrowed |
| Regular interest | No ongoing interest during the loan term |
| Late interest | 1.25% per week on unpaid principal, starting 7 days after the due date |
| Outstanding Balance Fee | $5, if applicable |
| Early repayment | No penalty |
Cash App charges a one-time flat fee, disclosed upfront, instead of a traditional interest rate.
That fee is typically 5% of the loan amount (for example, $5 on a $100 loan).
There are no hidden fees, rollover fees, compounding interest, or monthly finance charges.
Why Is Borrow Not Showing on Cash App?
Even if you’ve done everything above, Borrow might not show for several reasons:
- Not Meeting Criteria: Your account may not meet the deposit/usage thresholds.
- State/Regulatory Restrictions: Residents of Colorado, Iowa, and Oregon are ineligible by law.
- App/Device Issues: Make sure you’re on a supported device and app version.
- Account Type: Borrow is only for personal Cash App accounts. Business accounts, joint accounts, or teen/sponsored accounts will not have the Borrow option.
- Rollout/Gradual Release: Cash App may be gradually rolling out Borrow more widely even now.
- Past Due Loans: Cash App will disable your Borrow access until you settle the debt.
- Other Account Flags: Suspicious or problematic account status can also prevent new loans.
So, if Borrow doesn’t appear yet, check that you truly meet the direct-deposit/usage criteria and are in an eligible state.
Otherwise, you may simply have to wait and continue using the app normally.

How to Increase Your Chances of Getting Borrow
To improve the chances Borrow unlocks (or to raise your limit), focus on these highest-impact actions, roughly in priority order:
- Boost Deposits: Arrange for at least $300–$500 in monthly deposits into Cash App.
- Use Cash App Often: Make regular transactions. Send/receive money with friends, make small purchases with your Cash Card, and keep a positive Cash App balance. Frequent use signals an active account.
- Add/Use Cash Card: If you haven’t yet, order a free Cash App Visa Debit Card. Use it for purchases or ATM withdrawals.
- Maintain Balance: Keep some money in your Cash App account rather than immediately withdrawing it.
- Complete Verification: Finish any pending identity or bank linking steps in settings.
- Update the App: Ensure your app is up-to-date.
- Good Repayment History: Once you have one Borrow loan, repay on time. Positive repayment behavior can qualify you for higher limits on future loans.
- Stable Account Info: Make sure your name, address, and contact details are correct and up-to-date in Cash App. Consistency with official documents can reduce friction.
(Note: While some users have resorted to workarounds like temporarily changing their account address, we do not recommend or endorse violating Cash App’s terms. Stick to legitimate behaviors.)
How to Use Cash App Borrow to Get a Loan?
Cash App Borrow can give you access to a small amount of short-term credit directly through your Cash App account.
Step 1: Open Cash App & Money Tab
Once your account is updated and your information is in order, check whether Borrow is available.
- Open Cash App and
- Tap the Money tab at the bottom of your screen.
Depending on your version of the app, the layout may look slightly different.
Look for Borrow. If you’re eligible, Cash App will show your available borrowing amount there.
Step 2: Check Your Borrow Offer
If Cash App has made Borrow available to you, you’ll see information about the amount you may be able to borrow.
Important Note
Complete identity verification if Cash App asks you to. You generally need to be 18 or older, have an unrestricted account in good standing, and be the legal owner of the account.
Your available amount is determined by Cash App and can vary from one account to another.
Step 3: Choose How Much You Want to Borrow
If you’re comfortable with the terms, enter the amount you want to borrow.
You don’t necessarily have to take the entire amount you’re offered. If you only need a smaller amount, borrowing less can reduce the amount you’ll have to repay.
Before continuing, double-check the fee and repayment details displayed on your screen.
Step 4: Review and Accept the Agreement
Cash App will show you the terms of the loan before you finalize it.
Read through them carefully. Pay particular attention to the repayment date and the total cost of borrowing.
If everything looks right and you decide to proceed, follow the prompts in the app to accept the loan.
Step 5: Receive the Money
After your loan is approved and completed, the funds are deposited into your Cash App balance.
You can then use the money for eligible spending or other purposes allowed under the terms of the service.
Cash App Loan Repayment Timeline
Suppose you borrow $100 on Day 0.
The $100 lands in your Cash App balance immediately.
Cash App will set a due date in about 4 weeks (e.g., Day 28).
You can repay in any agreed schedule (e.g., $26.25 each week). If you have $105 total, you could pay
- $27 on Day 7
- $26 on Day 14
- $26 on Day 21, and
- $26 on Day 28 to cover the full $105.
| Borrowed | Flat Fee (5%) | Total Owed | 4-week Plan (≈4 installments) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $100 | $5 | $105 | ≈$26.25/week |
| $200 | $10 | $210 | ≈$52.50/week |
| $400 | $20 | $420 | ≈$105.00/week |
| $500 | $25 | $525 | ≈$131.25/week |
For example, borrowing $200 incurs a $10 fee, so you must repay $210 total. If split into 4 weekly payments, that’s about $52.50 each week. If you repay early or in larger chunks, you simply pay off the remaining balance; no additional discounts or penalties beyond finishing the fee.
If you miss the due date, you’ll owe extra. In our $100 example, a one-week delay adds about $1.31 (1.25% of $105) for a new total of $106.31. Cash App will automatically debit your Cash balance or linked debit card to collect the final payment on or shortly after the due date.
