How to Fill Out a Fidelity Express Money Order
Filling out a Fidelity Express money order is straightforward, but you should take your time to make sure every detail is correct.
Step 1. Enter the Payee’s Name
Start by finding the line labeled “Pay to the Order of.”
Write the full name of the person or company that will receive the money. Make sure you spell the name exactly as it should appear.
For example:
Pay to the Order of: ABC Apartments LLC
Step 2. Enter Your Information
Next, look for a field labeled “From,” “Purchaser,” or something similar.
Enter your full legal name. If the money order includes a space for your address, enter your current mailing address as well.
For example:
Purchaser: John Smith
Address: 123 Main Street, Dallas, TX 75201
Step 3. Verify the Amount
Check the amount shown on the money order and make sure it matches the amount you intended to send.
Depending on where and how you purchased the money order, the amount may already have been entered for you. If the amount has been completed by the cashier, do not change it yourself.
Step 4. Add an Account or Reference Number
If your money order has a “Memo,” “Payment For,” “Acct #,” or similar field, you can use it to identify what the payment is for.
For example:
Acct #: 458921
Payment For: March Rent
You can use this section for a billing account number, invoice number, tenant number, or another reference requested by the recipient.

See Fidelity Safety RulesStep 5. Sign the Money Order
Find the Purchaser or Signer signature line on the front of the money order.
Sign your name as you normally would.
Do not sign the back of the money order.
The back is generally reserved for the recipient to endorse when the money order is cashed or deposited.
Step 6. Check the Date
Look for a date field on the money order.
If you are instructed to enter the purchase date, use the date you bought the money order.
If the cashier has already entered the date and there is no separate purchaser date field, you generally do not need to add another date.
Step 7. Keep Your Receipt
Your money order should include a receipt or purchaser’s stub.
Detach the receipt and keep it in a safe place. The receipt provides important information about your money order, including its identifying or serial number.
Keep it until you know the recipient has received and processed the payment.
Step 8. Review Everything Before You Send It
Before you hand over or mail the money order, take a moment to review it.
Make sure:
- The recipient’s name is correct.
- The amount is correct.
- Your name and address are correct, if requested.
- Any account or reference number is correct.
- You signed the correct line on the front.
- You removed and kept your receipt.
Trust me, a few minutes spent checking the money order before you send it can help prevent delays, payment problems, or the need to replace it.
Is a Specific Pen or Color Required?
Use a blue or black ballpoint pen.
Although Fidelity does not specify a required ink color for customers, blue or black ink is the safest choice because it is clear, permanent, and easy to read.
Avoid pencil, erasable ink, or very light-colored ink because your writing should be permanent and easy to read.

What to Do With the Receipt?
Always retain the receipt stub that comes with a Fidelity Express money order.
This detachable stub is your proof of purchase. It shows the serial number, purchase date, amount, and agent ID.
- Tear off the receipt stub.
- Keep it in a safe place.
- Record the money order number and amount.
- Keep it until the money order is cashed or deposited.
- Keep a copy if you submit it for a refund or other request
Fidelity requires the purchaser’s receipt when processing stop-payment or refund requests.
So, you need to keep the receipt until you are sure the money order has been cashed.
What to Do If You Make a Mistake
If you made a mistake, do not correct a mistake by crossing out or using correction fluid.
Once an MO is filled out, you must use an official remedy:
1. Before leaving the store
If you notice an error, ask the cashier to void the money order. They can cancel the transaction, and you can purchase a new MO.
After leaving (filled MO)
If you cannot void it at the store, do not cross out the front.
Instead, follow Fidelity’s Not Used procedure.
So, in the presence of a bank or check-cashing agent, write on the back: Copy NOT USED FOR PURPOSE INTENDED [signature of purchaser]
This indicates you do not intend to honor this instrument.
The agent may accept this and refund you in cash or a replacement money order.
3. Official refund/cancellation
Regardless of the above, to fully cancel or replace the money order, you must use Fidelity’s refund process.
Complete the Fidelity Express Money Order Refund Request Form.
Send the form with the original money order and the purchaser’s receipt to Fidelity Express (address on form or email to consumercare@fidelityexpress.com).
For a mistake in the payee name, a $5 non-refundable fee is deducted.
4. Lost receipt
If you have the MO but lost the receipt, you need to call Fidelity as soon as possible.

They can advise how to proceed. In most cases, you’ll still need the MO itself for any refund attempt.
5. Stolen money order
If the money order itself is stolen, treat it as a fraud case.
- Refund Request Form
- Police Report with the MO number
- Copy of your photo ID. Once Fidelity confirms the MO isn’t cashed, they will stop-pay and refund.
In all cases, you need to keep copies of everything you send and note any case or reference numbers.
How to Track a Fidelity Express Money Order
To track or verify a Fidelity Express money order, you will need the money order’s serial number and amount, which are found on your copy/receipt.
- Find your receipt: Locate the money order serial number.
- Note the amount: You’ll need the exact amount of the money order.
- Go to the Fidelity Express Support Center.
- Select “Money Order Status Lookup.”
- Enter the serial number and amount.
- Check the status to see whether the money order has been cashed.
If you simply want to confirm the recipient has cashed it, you can call or use the online portal with the MO’s serial number and amount.
